1st discussion to respond:
The Public Health department was established in the United Kingdom in 1848 but has been practiced since the early 500 BCE. The CDC defines Public Health as “the science and art of preventing disease, prolonging life, and promoting health through the organized efforts and informed choices of society, organizations, public and private communities, and individuals.” (Winslow, CEA)
In my own words, to help keep the population healthy and control the disease. They help control infectious diseases, such as Covid-19, Influenza, and Sexually transmitted infections. We need the focus on CDC in the US Healthcare System and worldwide because they assure that the community has health conditions. They help monitor and control epidemic outbreaks. They also help with health care for everyone.
Many centuries ago, doctors and religious leaders were considered to be equal. Anyone who was sick or needed medical care usually never went to see a Doctor; instead would always resort to religious leaders or “curanderos.” During this century, the community decided to separate church from medicine. By using their individual beliefs to help decide on medical treatments. And that’s alright. We need to incorporate more religion into medicine. Sometimes just having faith will increase
some individuals’ turn to their religious beliefs to assist them in making medical decisions. Due to their faith, others have issues and concerns regarding being seen by someone of the opposite sex. And others decline to receive specific medical treatments due to their religion prohibiting them.
Community health, In my own words, means to help keep the community healthy and free of disease. Keeping the population as healthy and controlling disease as possible. They help control infectious diseases, such as Covid-19, Influenza, and Sexually transmitted infections.
I don’t see many resources or active community support teams in my community. Funding is low for our sector. The church helps a lot with some public health issues. Every three months, they arrange a health fair in their parking lot and provide screenings, information, and referrals if needed. If any disease is suspected patient will schedule an appointment with a Primary Care Physician.
We refer to various comprehensive health centers for abnormal or high-risk patent care. I want to set up a health fair and offer so much information and even small talk sessions with crowds. If we keep our community healthy, we will better our community and make it even more beautiful.
2nd Discussion to respond:
Firstly, public health is the science and art of preventing disease, prolonging life, and promoting health through the organized efforts and informed choices of society, organizations, public and private communities, and individuals. According to “Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.” However, public health is much more than that. According to “Walden University” those with public health degrees keep communities healthy through child wellness, disease prevention, education, disaster relief, clean water, access to healthcare, and much more. Without public health many of us wouldn’t live past our forties or thirties due to us not having public health in our communities or country. Public health is what helps keep our communities clean, allows us access to insurance for if we need to go see a doctor for a sickness or injury. While also spreading awareness for other things such as chronic diseases, injury and violence prevention, mental illness/behavioral health, unintended pregnancy, oral health, tobacco use, substance abuse, nutrition, physical activity, obesity prevention. Public health should be also available to those around the world so that communities, and the people can live a healthy clean life with access to healthcare.
In my opinion I feel that Christian faith healthcare would have a big impact on healthcare because they are God’s followers and would do just as he did in the bible. Which is to help care for and heal the sick with compassion and love. I feel like people who have God in their hearts are good people, as far as I have seen in my life throughout the years. An example I can give is my grandmother was in the hospital due to her falling at work. She was injured quite badly and had to be hospitalized but she didn’t want to stay for the night because she knew she would have difficulty paying it off. Her church that she frequently attends heard about what happened and donated a big sum of money that allowed her to stay the night without having to worry about the bill and just focus on her healing. My point is I feel like when Christian faith is involved in healthcare, they will be more attentive to people, and communities because they actually care more for them, just as God did.
For starters I believe that everyone should have access to some type of health insurance in order for them to have access for the care they may need for themselves or family members without having to worry about paying an up-front payment. With everyone having equal access to healthcare then many will not have to be turned away from health clinics, doctors’ offices, dentists etc.
3rd Discussion to respond:
Public health is the concern of protecting the health of people and their communities. We need this to focus on the US healthcare systems and worldwide because it is the ability in “promoting healthy lifestyles, researching disease and injury prevention, and detecting, preventing and responding to infectious diseases” (What Is Public Health?, n.d.-b). The ability to have professionals involved and dedicated to promoting healthy lifestyles can help with prevention and the reoccurrence of disease, illness, or injury as well as the ability for people to have the access to proper care.
Christian faith healthcare impacts the delivery of healthcare because of the support that comes from these professionals. Healthcare based on a Christian worldview will not judgmental or declining in the need to help patients. Being able to help patients in need regardless of their insurance policies or condition will always be helpful and can always find ways in promoting healthy lifestyles with groups and church.
My perspective on community health is seeing health data for the community that I live in and analyzing data to be able to distinguish the error that we are doing and how it can be fixed to help public health. I do not believe that this is being put to use or is not as commonly advertised in my community because of how relatively small it is with only having 1 Dr. office to cover all the residents seems very untrusting. We do have clinics, but they do not provide the same resources that a doctor would, and some people might not have the insurance or money to attend an in-office visit. The doctor does what he can with the community but at the end of the day he is only one person, I am currently 37 weeks pregnant and luckily, I am able to travel out of town to see an OBGYN because there is not one in my community. My doctor is 1hr 45min away and the hospital here has also closed all maternity services so in case of an emergency I just pray that I am able to make the drive. Many more resources are needed to help promote heathy living and public health in my community.
4th Discussion to respond:
Public health looks at the health of the community as a whole. It includes access to healthcare, preventative medicine, education on health and wellness, as well as laws that promote safety. According to (What Is Public Health?, 2016), “public health was founded on the principle of social justice”; all people should have basic rights which include having the fortuity to live a healthy life.
Christian Faith healthcare is an integral part of health and wellbeing in all settings. Most hospitals have mission statements that are based on the teachings of Jesus Christ. Alongside this, there are countless organizations that support communities that are Christian based. These organizations help provide health education, housing, food, clothing, and substance abuse support/rehabilitation.
Community health entails how health and wellness are encouraged throughout our community; work, schools, and neighborhoods. Living in the city of Redlands, California has many perks. This is largely due to the strong Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) community of Loma Linda, which has been named a “Blue Zone” (LaMotte, 2019). SDA lifestyle encourages a vegetarian diet, physical activity, a strong spiritual practice, as well as abstinence from alcohol and tobacco. There are countless hiking trails in our Redlands/Loma Linda area, as well as many fresh fruit/vegetable stands and farmers’ markets. Many of the people in this area recognize the connection between fitness, health, and God as means to live to our fullest potential. At any time of day, you can feel safe taking a walk or hike, as there are countless others doing the same. The city of Loma Linda has also banned the sale of tobacco and smoking is not allowed within city limits.
