As you get into the research, the goal is to continue to narrow down the topic so it is clear, well defined, and allows you to truly develop the main ideas of the research top. If it is too broad, you will end up going too long or be all over the place trying to focus your paper. Once you get into the research, it will allow you to narrow down your paper based on the articles you find.
Helpful TIPS:
Choose a topic that you are interested in! The research process is more relevant if you care about your topic.
Narrow your topic to something manageable.
If your topic is too broad, you will find too much information and not be able to focus.
Background reading can help you choose and limit the scope of your topic.
If you later decide to change your topic, that is perfectly fine. You do not need to resubmit your new topic to me. This assignment is simply to ensure students are starting the process by thinking about a topic of research.
I chose **SALARY NEGOTIATIONS** as my topic here is the line I submitted to the Proffesor and she said it will be a good topic:
I want to conduct my paper on Salary Negotiation. I picked this topic because I am close to retiring from the Military, and I will likely have to negotiate a salary for the first time in over 22 years. Therefore, I think this topic will be interesting. With the research and information I discover, I am sure it will be a helpful tool for me moving forward.

Students will have a chance to select a topic related to the focuse on this course to conduct and prepare a research paper on. I have provided a list of potential topics within this section in BB. Once you get into the actual research on your topic, you will have the chance to continue to narrow down and refine your purpose statement. The more clear and specific the focus of your paper is, the easier it is to develop the main ideas and stay on topic.Please check out the writing resources folder in Section 2: Course Info > Course Resources for ways to strengthen your writing. I have also included APA resouces.
Here are a few remeinders:
This is a research paper, not an opinion paper. The paper requires a minimum of 5 full pages (12-point font, double-spaced and follow the APA writing style), grammatically correct and spell checked. The title and referenece page does NOT count toward the 5 full pages.
You must use at least 4 resouces (NOT including your text, which you may also cite as a 5th source). Sources can be a combination of scholarly and business-based sources such as HBR, Forbes, and/or Business Insider.
You must properly paraphrase and cite all sources. If you are unfamiliar with the APA guidelines on plagiarism, please refer to the wrirting resources info mentioned above.
Late submissions within 5 calendar days will receive an automatic 10% deduction per day; NO credit after 5 calendar days of due date (unless in extreme documented emergencies and approved by professor).
