INITIAL POST: This week’s discussion is going to challenge you to think about your essay topic in a different perspective.
To do so, write two paragraphs arguing against your thesis (must provide thesis before paragraphs) by providing two separate reasons the other side of the argument has against your thoughts (one paragraph for each reason, writing as though you are on the opposing side). Basically, put yourself in the shoes of someone who doesn’t agree with you. This might require you to do some research, brainstorming with friends and family, or even e-mailing me–I love playing the devil’s advocate!
This might be difficult for some of us, but really challenge yourself to think about what someone could say against your thoughts on the subject. You could even consider this to be a rant of sorts. Seriously, throw out anything and everything someone on the other side might say, even if you don’t believe it or it seems too outrageous. Think about the opposing view by writing two complete, academic paragraphs. As a reminder: an academic paragraph is between 5 – 7 sentences, and you should use a variety in sentence length, structure and word choice. Keep in mind your classmates will be reading this, so you must also remain respectful. Any overly and intentionally hateful posts will be deleted and not graded.
