1. In chapter one, I learned about the various and necessary factors for doing research, explicitly applying statistical methods. I learned about the basic notions of statistics, such as how to determine the sample sizes of a population, how to develop hypotheses, develop variables, and especially the various measurement scales to categorize them. In chapter two, on the other hand, tackling the topic of frequency distribution was vital as I learned to group or determine intervals to help in the observations of patterns, identifying types of frequencies and thus guiding the research findings and conclusions. These two chapters and the lecture notes provided a strong foundation for me and can be for anyone trying to gain the basic statistical skills for research. The major surprise was the presence of multiple and varying statistical methods for measuring research results.
2. I have not identified any notion that I disagree with in these chapters, as I believe each has a level of importance for statistical studies and can be adopted depending on an individual’s preference, interests, or capabilities.
3. The application of statistics in the sample size determination, the development of hypotheses, etc., are direct examples of daily practices in my life. As a student, I am constantly faced with research excises that require these two activities to be applied. Moreover, frequency distribution in daily economic activities can evaluate demand and supply patterns, inflation trends (Vernoy, Kyle, & Vernoy, 2014).
4. The topic of my interest is ‘The effect of students’ absenteeism on their performance.”I chose this topic because I believe it is one necessary subject to tackle one of the main reasons behind the poor performance of students. I am not having significant difficulty researching the topic as it has previously reached documentation. I plan to present it Live via Zoom.
5. My suggestion would be to go through this book to get the basic knowledge and skills on statistics and how to apply its various methodologies in research.
